An intimate Chinese Peking in wool, measuring 4' 1" x 7' 10", presented like a small painted landscape. A saturated navy field holds deer, flying birds and flowering branches, their forms modelled in warm neutrals and muted gold against a rose-pink inner cartouche and rich indigo guard. The wool pile retains a soft, luminous nap and shows low, even wear that preserves color depth and hand. The restrained palette and pictorial vocabulary point to early twentieth-century manufacture. Circa 1900 - 1925. This antique rug reads as tactile and composed, its quiet abrasion and refined motifs revealing layered craft and age.
