This Aubusson is woven in wool and presents a large, painterly floral medallion set within scrolled cartouches and corner bouquet sprays. The neutral and cream tones read quietly against the wool ground, while layered tonal modelling in the border and centre gives a faded, painted quality. Surface abrasion and even fading communicate age without compromising compositional clarity; the piece retains a tactile, time-softened patina. Circa 1880 - 1895. Measures 12' 6" x 16' 0".
