This Aubusson presents a softly faded, painterly field framed by a ribboned cartouche and four painted corner medallions in neutral, cream and pink. At 12' 2" x 12' 9" the composition reads like a watercolor: delicate floral sprays, scrolling arabesques and a broad rose-tinted border retain hand-painted nuance despite medium wear. The wool surface is worn to a mellow patina with visible abrash, softened roses and a centre fold that marks long use and careful handling. An antique rug with a refined, tactile presence; Circa 1890 - 1910, it holds the subtle history of light and motion across its weave.
