A bold figural composition rendered in soft wool, this Khotan presents a single stylised lion across a warm red field, punctuated by cream floral rosettes in the corners. The handwoven wool shows a low level of wear and a gentle vertical abrash that gives the surface depth and a lived-in patina. The outline work and simplified anatomy of the lion create a graphic, folk-inflected presence. This antique rug measures 6' 10" x 5' 0" and retains a lively pile and tactile sheen. Circa 1915 - 1935. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
