Soft-worn and atmospheric, this Khotan presents a luminous coral-red field threaded with pale ivory medallions and faded pink accents. The all-over composition balances geometric medallion forms and stylized floral motifs, contained by a series of layered, lightly stained guard borders. Handwoven wool has developed a low, tactile pile and even abrash that reads as a warm patina across the surface. Wear is honest and considered, revealing neutrals through the red ground and enlivening the pattern. This antique rug measures 8' 9" x 17' 3", and carries a restrained, early twentieth-century sensibility. Circa 1900 - 1920.
