A compact Kerman woven in wool, this antique rug presents a scalloped cream medallion set against a deep blue field. The medallion holds a carefully worked bouquet of roses and smaller floral sprays, with a small bird accenting the composition. Multiple narrow guard borders frame the piece, each carrying repeating floral and vine motifs. Wear is minimal and the colours retain clear contrast between the cream centre and blue ground. The scale is intimate yet finely detailed, 1' 9" x 1' 10". Circa 1890 - 1910. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
