This Khotan antique rug in wool measures 4' 1" x 8' 3" and carries a balanced, time-softened composition. A red central field is framed by cream and neutral borders, while the outer edge resolves into a strong Greek-key motif that lends structure to the faded surface. The stepped medallion at centre, along with small corner details and dispersed floral traces, reflects the restrained elegance of the form. Circa 1880 - 1900, it shows medium wear and an evenly muted patina that deepens its quiet character without obscuring the design. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
