An Esfahan woven in wool, measured at 4' 9" x 6' 6", this antique rug carries a restrained central medallion set into a warm red field with brown outlining and neutral cream highlights. The floral arabesques flow into palmette borders and narrow guard stripes, producing a composed, layered composition. The surface shows low distress and a soft, even abrash that harmonises the palette; the pile reads tactile and settled rather than newly refurbished. Subtle blue and ivory accents lift the warmth of the field while the border work remains crisply defined. Circa 1890 - 1910.
