An Esfahan antique rug in wool, rendered with a large, complex central medallion set against an ivory field and framed by layered floral borders. At 13' 4" x 21' 5", the scale reads as formal and architectural while the finely worked vine and palmette network gives a tactile, living surface. Blues, greens and warm reds are held in careful balance, and the piece shows low distress with well-preserved detail. Circa 1900 - 1920, this Esfahan demonstrates restrained colour modulation and classical drawing, a measured example of heritage weaving and considered design.
