An elegant Farahan Sarouk in handwoven wool, this large antique rug measures 14' 4" x 21' 5". A deep, disciplined central medallion anchors a warm neutral field while saturated red and brown enrich the cartouched corners and ornate borders. Palmettes, scrolling vines and small floral reserves articulate the ground with refined density. Surface condition is low distress, with even pile and a soft mellowing of dyes that lends tactility and depth. Subtle abrash and restrained fading enhance the aged character. Circa 1900 - 1915. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
