A Farahan Sarouk in wool, this antique rug measures 16' 8" x 23' 3". A large scalloped medallion in warm brown and gold anchors a densely worked floral ground, the field threaded with palmettes and flowing vinework. Corner spandrels and a layered series of floral borders frame the composition with measured symmetry. Low distress preserves the pattern clarity while a soft abrash and gentle surface wear lend tactile depth to the wool. The overall effect is an object of patient craft, color modulation, and compositional poise. Circa 1900 - 1915.
