Bakhshaish / 10789

A generous Bakhshaish in wool, 11' 0" x 13' 10", its red field held by a deep indigo border and a painterly floral medallion at the center. The composition balances broad, painterly fills with reserved corner spandrels and rhythmic guard borders. Low distress preserves a soft, tactile pile while subtle abrash and tonal shifts in the red field speak to long use and natural dyes. This antique rug reads both bold and quietly worn; motifs remain legible as the surface catches light and reveals layered colour depth. Circa 1885 - 1915.
