An antique Bijar woven in wool, this expansive example measures 9' 10" x 13' 6" and reads as a study in muted tone and layered pattern. A large lozenge medallion sits within a broad diamond field, the ground freckled with small repeating motifs and held by narrow floral borders. Time has mellowed the original palette to warm browns, cream and white; high distress has softened the pile and produced gentle abrash and patination throughout. Circa 1895 - 1915. The overall effect is tactile and restrained, a heritage-rich rug that carries the quiet evidence of age and use. This antique rug retains a considered, tactile character.
