Sultanabad / 11715

This Sultanabad is a robust wool antique rug, 11' 3" x 13' 3", defined by a large, elongated central medallion set into a warm red field. Neutral and gold accents form scrolling palmettes, corner spandrels and a wide floral border rendered with measured restraint. The surface shows low wear and a soft patina that reads as restrained age rather than heavy distress; abrash in the field lends a subtle, lived-in depth to the colour. The weave language and decorative scale point to an earlier turn-of-century hand, a piece with presence and considered compositional balance. Circa 1920 - 1935
