Bakhshaish / 12006

This Bakhshaish runner, woven in wool and measuring 3' 1" x 24' 6", reads as a long, intimate procession of palmettes and scrolling vines. The field carries a warm neutral ground enlivened by red and cream accents, articulated with small floral cartouches that repeat along the length. Guard borders frame the composition in layered bands of muted red and navy tones, their rhythm preserved by low, even wear. The piece has the tactility of well-aged wool and the considered restraint of village weaving; an antique rug that balances faded colour and crisp motif. Circa 1880 - 1900
