This Sultanabad is a quietly refined wool rug on a pale cream ground, 5' 0" x 6' 5". Its large-scale floral meander reads like a faded garden, rendered in soft red accents, sage and muted blue against a neutral field. A narrow red floral border frames palmettes, sprigs and wandering vines. Medium distress has softened the pile and mellowed the color, leaving gentle abrash and a tactile, lived-in surface that registers age and use. An antique rug of restrained composition and tactile presence; Circa 1920 - 1935. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
