A Sultanabad in soft wool, this antique rug reads as an exercise in restrained colour and classical Persian vocab. The cream field is punctuated by palmettes, scrolling vines and restrained medallions, set within a broad red floral border that frames the composition. Colours are quietly saturated, red, cream, neutral and touches of navy and olive, holding up well against gentle, even wear. The surface shows low distress and a dry-hand typical of age, revealing structure and craft through tactility. Circa 1880 - 1900. Dimensions: 10' 0" x 12' 9". The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
