This Sultanabad antique rug reads like a softened field of blooms; an expansive wool ground worked in muted neutral with lively red and pink accents. The all-over floral and vine composition is defined by scattered palmettes and small rosettes that float across the field, while a broad red floral border contains the composition with calm confidence. Wear is low and the surface remains supple, the colours mellowed with age but clear in their relations. Circa 1900 - 1920. Size 20' 9" x 22' 11". The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
