This Soumak antique rug measures 5' 3" x 10' 2", and carries a layered, time-softened composition in neutral, red, white, and cream with deep blue-green and burgundy accents. Three large medallions anchor the field, while a narrow inner border and densely worked outer bands add structure around the faded surface. The wool palette has mellowed into a quiet, tactile balance, with low distress and visible wear that speak to long use and age. Circa 1880 - 1900, it reads with the density and irregular character that define a well-kept antique rug.
