An elegant small Hook in wool, its 2' 0" x 3' 7" field presents a deep black lozenge framed by soft neutral ribbons and a vertical floral vine. Stylised blossoms in restrained tones articulate the centre, their hooked texture playing against a crisply punched ground. The palette reads black, neutral, white and cream, and low distress preserves a tactile, youthful pile and clear motifs. This antique rug carries a graphic, modernist sensibility tempered by handworked wool and subtle abrash across the ribbons. Circa 1895 - 1910. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
