This Sarouk antique rug, 10' 2" x 14' 3", is rendered in a layered field of floral vines, palmettes, and scrolling leaves, framed by a richly ornamented border. The palette moves between faded blue, teal, cream, red, and brown, with softened contrast that gives the surface a calm, lived-in depth. Wool lends a tactile hand, while medium distress and visible age bring character to the composition. Circa 1920 - 1935, it carries the graceful density and decorative balance associated with classic Sarouk weaving, made more atmospheric by its worn, painterly finish.
