This Ghiordes antique rug presents a richly ordered field of red and gold, anchored by a large central diamond medallion and stepped corner ornaments that give the composition its unmistakable balance. The allover floral ground is framed by multiple borders, each softened by age into a warm, quiet register. Woven in wool and measuring 13' 5" x 22' 2", it carries a grounded, architectural presence with low distress and a gently timeworn surface. Circa 1895 - 1915, the rug reads as both formal and lyrical, with a depth of colour that feels settled rather than vivid.
