This Ghiordes antique rug in wool, measuring 3' 6" x 6' 8", carries a richly layered field of red, rose, tan, and brown with softened ivory accents. A central medallion anchors the composition, while surrounding panels and borders alternate between roundels, geometric bands, and floral fragments. The surface shows low distress, with visible wear that has mellowed the colours and given the pattern a quiet depth. Circa 1880 - 1900, it reflects the grounded symmetry and decorative density associated with Ghiordes weaving, balanced here by a warm, timeworn hand. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
