A commanding Serapi woven in wool, this antique rug presents a large red octagonal field punctuated by a central medallion and an array of stylised floral and geometric motifs. Cream spandrels and pale blue accents animate the corners and draw the eye through the composition, while a broad, neutral-brown border frames the piece. The surface shows low distress and an even, tactile nap that reads as soft patina rather than heavy wear. The scale is generous at 12' 3" x 16' 8" and the hand of an earlier workshop is visible in the assured, graphic motifs. Circa 1880 - 1920.
