This Serapi antique rug measures 9' 1" x 10' 6" and presents a richly layered field of deep blue beneath an energetic lattice of cream vines and scattered floral forms. The red border brings balance with rosettes, blossoms, and small botanical details, while the ivory guard borders sharpen the composition. Wool lends the surface a grounded, tactile character, with low distress and a softly worn handle that reads as honest age. Circa 1885 - 1900, it carries the graphic clarity and restrained colour contrast that define the most enduring Serapi designs.
