The Serapi presents a generous rust-red field punctuated by a cream, stepped central medallion and turquoise-blue spandrels. Handwoven in wool, the composition reads as architectural and organic at once, floral rosettes drifting through the field and a layered floral guard border enclosing the design. Gentle abrash and a subtly faded surface lend a tactile patina without heavy loss; the piece remains in low distress with an even, soft pile. This antique rug measures 9' 2" x 14' 6" and carries the quiet authority of age and craft. Circa 1880 - 1900.
