An elegant Serapi in wool, this antique rug measures 8' 7" x 13' 11" and presents a rose-pink medallion set within a saturated navy field and a broad salmon guard. The stepped, serrated cartouche and ivory spandrels are populated with stylised trees, small floral guls and architectural motifs, creating a measured geometric composition. The palette, navy, coral-salmon, soft blue and warm ivory, is rendered with a tactile, low-pile hand and a soft, even patina. Wear is minimal and abrash is gentle, accenting the layered colour. Circa 1865 - 1880, this Serapi balances bold geometry with a quietly time-earned surface.
