An expansive Serapi in soft, weathered tones, this antique rug reads as both graphic and quietly worn. A large lozenge medallion anchors a field of stylised palmettes, leafy sprays and sparing geometric accents, while ivory spandrels and a warm brown guard border frame the composition. Woven in wool, the surface has mellowed into a supple patina; even abrash and medium distress lift the reds and neutrals, lending depth to the palette. The motifs remain assertive where pile has softened, each leaf and cartouche retaining a tactile clarity. Circa 1880 - 1900. Measurements: 12' 0" x 17' 8".
