Sultanabad became an important center for carpet production serving European and American markets during the nineteenth century. Its rugs often feature bold floral designs with spacious arrangements.
Dark red, blue, soft green, gold, and ivory are the typical colors. Besides using wide and bold borders, Sultanabad rugs had designs based on small repeating floral patterns as well as all-over large scale lattice vine patterns. Assess each rug individually: its drawing, condition, repairs and suitability for the intended room matter more than a category label.
